History of North Cemetery

North Cemetery opened in 1927 and spans 10.1 hectares, and houses Bournemouth Crematorium which opened in 1938. Bournemouth Crematorium has frequently been one of the top five busiest crematoria in the country. The office is located at the main entrance of the cemetery alongside the lodge, that originally housed the cemetery supervisor.

We are fortunate to take care of Roman Catholic, Church of England, Muslim, and Non-denomination burials within this site.

North Cemetery is home to over 110 Commonwealth war graves. The majority are buried within a section to the right as you enter the cemetery, with others buried separately around the cemetery.

Woodland Burial Section

Within North Cemetery there is a Woodland Burial section which allows the sustainable burial in each of its woodland plots. After a woodland burial you can select from a wide range of trees that are both suitable and in keeping with the surrounding nature of the cemetery. One tree will be planted six months after burial, within the burial plot. The tree planting may be booked after six months, depending on the season and suitability of the tree.
